Riverside Children’s Theatre students win national award

VERO BEACH — Twenty six students from Riverside Children’s Theatre recently attended the Junior Theatre Festival sponsored by Music Theatre International and iTheatrics in Atlanta, GA to present a 15 minute portion of HONK, JR.   The showcase included 50 groups representing schools and theatre programs from around the country with approximately 1,700 students in attendance.

Representing RCT were Taylor Beckmann, Erin Cady, Megan Callahan, Sean Castro, Tim Chastain, Ryan Fink, Kiersten Hope, Cassidy Layton, Alyson Leavitt, Shannon Maloney, Clara Martin, Elizabeth McAneny, Meredith McAneny, Amanda McAneny, Anna Morris, Mekenzie Moses, Emma Olmstead, Cheryl Peek, Delaney Polk, Lisa Renkel, Ryan Roberson, Patrick Schlitt, Quintin Smith and Katie Sherman, Walker Smith and Jay Wiggins.  The students were led by RCT director Kevin Quillinan and music director Debbie Quillinan.

The students brought home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.  Tim Chastain and Shannon Maloney were selected as JTF All-Stars and performed at the final awards ceremony.  In addition Shannon Maloney, Delaney Polk, Megan Taylor Callahan and Quintin Smith were invited to audition for a choreography DVD.

The theatre also had the honor of being selected to perform a selection from “Godspell” for its composer Stephen Schwartz.
