VERO BEACH – Turnout was better than expected at the Annual Indian River County Employee Health Fair, according to organizers.
More than 40 health, fitness and wellness professionals were on hand from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the County Administration Complex for the health fair, which was open to the public for the first time this year.
“The whole idea is to promote health and wellness tips to the employees,” said Human Resources Director Jim Sexton. “But we were having trouble getting vendors with it only being available to the employees so we decided to have it in Building A and to open it up to a wider audience.” The fair had hoped to attract people coming in to pay utility bills and to handle other business with the county. The county has nearly 900 employees scattered at various locations.
At 11 a.m. and noon Dr. Deepti Sadhwani of Quality Health Care in Sebastian spoke in the Building B conference room on the topic “Attaining Health and Wellness.”
The Visiting Nurse Association offered seasonal flu (not swine flu) shots for $19 each and pneumonia shots for $45 each. Physicians also offered PSA tests for men as an early detection tool for prostate cancer, blood pressure checks and other tests.
