Roars from a packed audience filled the stadium as the Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians conquered the Miami Palmetto Panthers during the state semifinals last Friday, Dec. 5. The historic win led the Fighting Indians a chance to compete in the 7A football state championship to be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Pitbull Stadium in Miami.
This will be the first time the Fighting Indians will compete in a football state championship in 44 years, an achievement drawing accolades from alumni and fans across Indian River County.
The Fighting Indians will face-off against the Lake Mary Rams. The upcoming, monumental game was expected to draw thousands of fans to the south Florida site this weekend.
The Fighting Indians remain undefeated with a 14-0 record this season.
