INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Community members are honoring a slain teen and his family with a meal train fundraiser, while the restaurant where he worked will host a candlelight vigil. The teen, identified by the meal train organizer as Sulli Bah, was fatally shot during an altercation at Garcia’s Boat Ramp last week.

“(Sulli) was a joy to be around and a hard worker,” Farm and Flame officials said in a Facebook post.

The vigil will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Farm and Flame, an upscale farm-to-table restaurant located at 9320 90th Avenue near Sebastian. Restaurant officials said they were heartbroken over the teen’s death.

“Our Farm & Flame family lost one of our own. Sulli worked our pizza station with a heart much bigger than his years, and he made every shift better just by being there,” restaurant officials said in a Facebook post.

“Farm and Flame is honored to have been able to work alongside him and his presence will be deeply missed.”

School District of Indian River County officials said Sulli was a senior and former Sebastian River High School student who recently withdrew to do homeschool. Robert Riskin, the school’s principal, has connected with students and will listen to how they want to honor and remember Sulli.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a young person who had been part of our Sebastian River High School community. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him. Our care for our students extends beyond their time on our campuses,” School District officials said in an emailed statement on Sunday.

“Our school counselors are always available, and grief counselors will join them at Sebastian River High School on Monday to provide additional support throughout the day. We encourage students who need someone to talk with to reach out. Families are also welcome to contact their school team so we can help their child find the support they need.”

Meal Train Fundraiser

Charissa Wright, a family friend who organized the meal train fundraiser, said Sulli’s family is very dear to her.

“There are no words or meals that can make this loss less devastating,” said Wright, who lives in Vero Beach. “My hope in organizing the Meal Train is to ease one small part of the day-to-day burden while she and her family grieve, including loved ones who have traveled all the way from Ohio to be with her.”

Wright said Sulli’s mother, Chelynn Godfrey, is a stepmother to Wright’s children.

“(Sulli’s) mom and I have walked through adversity together before, and she has shown my children so much love over the years,” Wright said. “As a friend and a mother whose heart breaks for her, showing up for her now is the least I can do.”

The meal train fundraising page, which aimed to raise $1,000, far surpassed its goal with more than $12,000 raised as of Tuesday, Oct. 6. Several people have delivered or booked meals to the family’s Vero Beach home.

The preferred drop off time at the residence is 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., the page shows.

“If you’re able, please consider signing up for a meal, sending a restaurant gift card, or contributing through the options on the meal train page,” the page reads. “Sharing this link and keeping the family in your prayers are meaningful ways to help, too.”

More details on dropping off food to the family can be found on the meal train fundraising page.
