INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 53-year-old Fort Pierce man died after his box truck slammed into the back of a roll-off truck Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
“The driver of the box truck failed to slow in time,” highway troopers said in a crash report.
The crash involving the 2015 Freightliner roll-off truck and the 2006 Isuzu box truck occurred about 4:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 at State Road A1A and Regatta Drive, south of The Moorings and north of Round Island Beach Park, troopers said.
Troopers said a 25-year-old Fort Pierce man was driving the roll-off truck south on S.R. A1A approaching Regatta Drive and slowing for traffic ahead. The 53-year-old Fort Pierce man was driving the box truck, which was behind the roll-off truck.
The front end of the box truck hit the back of the roll-off truck. The box truck’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Indian River County Fire Rescue crews, according to troopers.
The crash briefly blocked all directions near the intersection. Troopers continue to investigate the deadly crash.
