VBHS to advocate renaming court after Coach Loewendick at Monday SDIRC meeting

Vero Beach High School basketball coaches and supporters want to create a more permanent legacy for a veteran coach who was considered “the winningest coach across the Treasure Coast.” The coaches and staff want to rename the basketball court after former Coach Charles “Chuck” Loewendick, who garnered more than 600 wins during his tenure.

On Dec. 1, Monday night, Vero high’s Head Basketball Coach James “J.D.” Dawson, along with supporters, will speak at the School District of Indian River County board meeting about the initiative to rename the basketball court. Dawson asked for the community to come out and show their support for Loewendick, who retired as head basketball coach from Vero Beach High School following the 2016-2017 season.

The meeting will be held at the School District headquarters, 6500 57th Street, east of 66th Avenue. Supporters, including those who want to speak at the podium, should arrive by 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will begin about 6 p.m.
