Department of Health hosts “Man-up” event June 11

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Men and boys are invited to attend to the “Man-up” Event on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gifford Youth Achievement Center.

This free uplifting event discusses issues that every man faces and is sponsored by Indian River County HIV/AIDS Awareness Network, Fellsmere Action Community Team, and Florida Department of Health in Indian River County.

“The bonding of a father and son is so important for the health and well-being of the child and has positive effects on their development. This event teaches fathers to lead by example, not just advice,” said John May, HIV Outreach Coordinator for Florida Department of Health in Indian River County.

Topics and Presenters include:

• The Family Man: Bishop Vinson Polk

• Importance of Fathers and Sons Bonding: Pastor Nathan Peterson

Free services will include prostate screenings provided by Indian River Medical Center and blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring (fasting required for blood sugar monitoring). Free HIV/STD testing will also be available, participants will receive a $10 gift card.

Sponsors are providing a free breakfast and lunch to participants.
