Camp Haven ‘goes fishing’ for community support June 10

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Join Camp Haven as they “Catch and Release” local community leaders in a fishing tournament like no other.

This school of “Big Fish” will be reaching out to raise money to help cover Camp Haven’s operating costs. Local leaders have volunteered to meet at the Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 10. Each “fish” will reach out to family, friends and colleagues to help them raise $1,000 each before they can earn their release.

To show our appreciation, all donors will receive one-of-a-kind fish art created by Master’s Academy students. The children will be competing to win $25 gift certificates to the new Chick-Fil-A on 20th Street for the 10 best fish, as judged by Tiger Lily Art Studios Gallery artists.

If Camp Haven does not “catch” you in their net, you can still donate by dropping Lalita Janke a line at ljankecamphaven@gmail.com or give online at CampHaven.net.

Camp Haven gives men a rod to fish with and teaches them how to catch “fish” that will help them restore their lives and become productive members of this little piece of the big, blue sea of life.

Lunch provided by Einstein Brothers Bagels. Event sponsor is the Janke Charitable Foundation.

Camp Haven provides supportive living opportunities and education to men committed to rising out of homelessness. The program is unique, and the only shelter of its kind in Indian River County. By implementing a thoughtful intake procedure, and strict adherence to guidelines, residents in the program receive educational opportunities, counseling, and encouragement, as they move from homelessness to hopefulness, eventually becoming active, engaged, contributing members of our community.
