Volunteers needed to clean Sebastian spoil island, help Eagle Scout

SEBASTIAN — Volunteers are needed to help clean up Spoil Island IR-1 on March 27 and assist Eagle Scout Aaron with the construction of picnic tables and fire pits.

The work is expected to enhance the active recreational island. All material will be pre-cut and put together on the island.

Volunteers are needed for clean-up, construction, and boat travel – to haul material to island and bring trash back to boat ramp.

Volunteers need to arrive at the Main Street Boat Ramp by 9 a.m. They should dress appropriately and bring a lunch, fishing pole, hiking shoes with you.

“This is about fun, not just work,” said organizer Margie Reynolds.

41st Street to close next week for construction

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A contractor will close 41st Street next week to construct a turning lane for a future subdivision, county officials said. The contractor will close 41st Street from Aug. 23 to Aug. 27, authorities said. 41st Street will be blocked between Indian River Boulevard and U.S. 1. Part of 43rd Avenue to close for construction to widen roadway

VERO BEACH — A portion of 43rd Avenue will close for at least three months so construction workers can reconstruct and widen the roadway, county officials said. County officials said a contractor will close 43rd Avenue between 26th Street and State Road 60 from June 15 through Sept. 2. Property owners and emergency services will still have access to 43rd Avenue. A detour route will be posted, county officials said. Section of Conn Beach Boardwalk to close for repairs

VERO BEACH — Portions of the Conn Beach Boardwalk will close starting this week for construction for repairs, city officials said. Crews were expected to start repairing the boardwalk on Monday. City officials said the repairs should be complete by June 8. Pedestrians will not be able to walk on the boardwalk during construction.
