VERO BEACH — For the 42nd consecutive year, two performances of George Frideric Handel’s inspiring oratorio “Messiah” will be presented by the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach, 2206 16th Ave., Vero Beach, as a Christmas gift to the community.
The performances will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 18 beginning at 7 p.m.
Directed by the church’s Minister of Music and Worship, Michael Carter, “Messiah” will be performed by the church’s sanctuary choir joined by other local choir members and singers of the Treasure Coast Chorale, four world-class soloists and instrumentalists of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra.
The “Messiah”, written by Handel in 1741, tells the story of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in aria, recitative and chorus. It is the world’s ultimate Christmas story ranging from the prophecy of a savior to victory over death.
Soloists will be Soprano Rebecca Holbrook-Loar, Mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson, Tenor Norton Christeson, and Bass David Stork. Additional artists will include Brady Johnson on the harpsichord and Jill Truax on the organ.
Although there is no charge to attend the concert, a free-will offering will be taken to help defray some of the expenses of this glorious, inspirational concert. Members of the audience will be invited to join the singers for the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
