Gary Lee Smith, 56, of Vero Beach, died Aug. 24, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach for 21 years coming from South Point, Ohio.
He worked as a security guard at Glenbrooke, Palm Bay. He also worked for Devereux of Florida in Viera; and Tire Kingdom in Fort Pierce. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sebastian, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a musician and drummer who did a lot of studio work. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Smith, of Palm Bay; daughters, Penny Smith, of Vero Beach, and Melissa Feickert, of Sebastian; brother, James Smith, of South Point, Ohio; sister, Tammy Young, of West Union, Ohio; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Joann Smith, and his sister, Debbie.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m., Aug. 29, at the Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clifton Cooley officiating. Military Honors conducted by the Sebastian Area Veteran’s Honors Guard will follow the service.
