SEBASTIAN — Officers located and seized a sports utility vehicle they said was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man with life-threatening injuries earlier this week. Police were still searching for the unidentified driver of the SUV.
“We want to thank everyone in our community who shared our post and provided information to our detectives,” Sebastian police officials said in a statement. “Your help is greatly appreciated.”
Officers located the light-colored SUV on Friday in another city on the Treasure Coast, said Tim Wood, interim police chief for the Sebastian Police Department. The name of the town was withheld pending the active investigation.
The vehicle was towed to the police department and placed in evidence. The name of the injured man – who was walking in the crosswalk at the time of the crash – along with his age and town of residence were not released.
Sebastian Police Department officers responded to reports of the hit-and-run collision about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 near U.S. 1 and Main Street, north of Sebastian Boulevard. Officers found the injured man lying in the roadway.
The man was taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Wood said.
The SUV’s driver will face a second-degree felony charge upon arrest, Wood said.
“This investigation remains ongoing, and we will continue to keep our community informed as more information becomes available,” Sebastian police officials said.
