Update: Workers tallied votes after polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday in what many considered a must-watch election season. The races for sheriff, school board and county commission were of high interest among constituents. There was a 34.24 percent voter turnout for this year's primary election in Indian River County, the supervisor of elections' website shows. Former SRHS student charged after disrupting class, flipping over desks

SEBASTIAN — A former Sebastian River High School student was jailed after she gained access to the campus, walked into a classroom and began flipping over desks on Monday, sheriff's officials said. A teacher evacuated the students from the classroom when the disturbance occurred, school district officials said. "Once inside, the former student proceeded to a teacher’s classroom, where she became extremely disruptive," Cristen Maddux, spokesperson for the School District of Indian River County, said in a statement. "The teacher, recognizing the situation, immediately notified administration and security, and quickly cleared the classroom of all students to ensure their safety."
