Update: The polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, ending Primary Election Day with residents casting their top picks for District 2 school board and county commission, along with candidates for Congress and the governor’s race. All ballots from early voting, vote by mail and election day were completely reported from all 36 precincts in Indian River County.
There was a 29 percent voter turnout, with 34,295 residents casting ballots out of 118,078 registered voters, according to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Residents made their way to the polls to cast their choices for seats on the school board, county commission and other races during Tuesday’s Primary Election. Polls will close at 7 p.m., with the unofficial results coming in shortly after.
The polling locations are below:
Intergenerational Recreation Center – 1590 9th Street S.W. (new location)
Supervisor of Elections Office – 4375 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach
Indian River County Main Library – 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach
Sebastian City Hall Council Chambers – 1225 Main Street, Sebastian
Some of the more high-profile races include the District 2 county commission seat, which was open after incumbent Joe Flescher announced his retirement following two decades of public service. Flescher will retire in November.
Residents will also choose their top picks for the District 2 school board seat, along with the congressional seat and governor’s seat.
The local school board race is non-partisan, while the race for commissioner, congressman and governor are all closed primaries.
As of Tuesday morning, the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections’ Office received 13,199 votes by mail, 7,914 ballots during early voting, 2,227 votes on Election Day and six provisional ballots. So far, the official voter turnout was 20 percent.
