What and Where: It’s been a half dozen years since Chef Massimo Napoli and his wife Carla opened Francesca’s Italian Kitchen on Ocean Drive directly across from Humiston Park. Even if you travel to their native Calabria, you won’t find more authentic, freshly made Italian food than the tasty dishes served here.

Ambiance/Atmosphere: Italian trattoria with nice outdoor terrace.

Must-Try Dishes: Don’t skip the arancini – cheese stuffed risotto balls.

Adult Beverages: Full bar. Good wine selection by bottle or glass.

Overall Verdict: The Tuscan-hued inside dining area is a tight fit, but 50 can dine comfortably on Francesca’s very pleasant patio when the weather is nice. And this casual trattoria is about the food. On a recent visit, the flash fried stuffed melanzane – thin slices of breaded eggplant, stuffed with ricotta cheese, topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella – was light and creamy. And the ravioli Mantovani – butternut squash ravioli in a browned butter sauce – was to die for.
