Janet Jackson Amos, 76
November 27, 1949 – March 7, 2026
Janet Jackson Amos passed away on March 7, 2026, following a difficult battle with an unforgiving autoimmune disorder.
Janet was born in Rhode Island on November 27, 1949; her parents were the late William M. and Mary (Rae) Jackson. She spent the majority of her growing up years in Fairfield, Connecticut where she was a 1967 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School. She was a 1971 graduate of Bates College, Lewiston, Maine where she was awarded membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society. Following graduation she married her college sweetheart, Jeffrey Amos; the two journeyed through life as partners for 54 years. Janet later earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Janet’s professional career spanned several decades as a middle school special education teacher, first in Las Vegas and, later, for many years in Decatur, Georgia. In retirement she served as a volunteer tutor with the Literacy Services program of Indian River County, Florida.
Janet cherished her role as wife, mother and nana. She was the glue that kept everyone connected through annual family vacations, special holiday get-togethers and weekly phone calls and online Skype/Teams video calls. Every birthday and holiday was an opportunity for Janet to shop for and send a special gift. Christmas season was by far her favorite time of year. She was a long-time member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church of Atlanta, Georgia and continued to enjoy online services from Glenn on Sunday mornings during her retirement. Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey; her sons, William (Holly) of Anaheim, California and Robert (whom she proudly referred to as Dr. Bobby) of Athens, Georgia; and her grandsons, Dexter and Lincoln of California. She was predeceased by her brother, William W. Jackson, of Fairfield, Connecticut. Janet’s warmth, generosity and unconditional love will be dearly missed by her family.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled for a later date.
