BREVARD COUNTY — A 56-year-old Vero Beach motorcyclist died Tuesday after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a pickup truck driver made a left turn into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, causing the collision along U.S. 1. The wreck led officials to close northbound lanes on U.S. 1 for at least three hours.

The driver of the Ford Ranger pickup, a 68-year-old Malabar man, was not hurt. The crash involved the 2021 Indian motorcycle and 2001 Ford Ranger with a boat trailer attached.

Troopers said the pickup driver was headed southbound about 6:25 a.m. on U.S. 1 north of First Street in Grant-Valkaria. The motorcyclist was traveling north in the inside lane.

The driver of the pickup was in the left turning lane when he turned into the direct path of the motorcycle, troopers said. The motorcyclist struck the boat trailer.

Troopers said the motorcyclist was taken to Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, reports show.

The pickup driver remained on scene. Troopers continue to investigate the deadly wreck.
