INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 65-year-old Vero Beach man was killed after his sports utility vehicle was struck by a pickup truck Thursday on Old Dixie Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision involved a 2014 Honda CR-V SUV and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, troopers said. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 23-year-old Fort Pierce man, had minor injuries.

The wreck happened about 5:46 p.m. at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and 41st Street. The Chevrolet’s driver was headed westbound on 41st Street while the Honda’s driver was traveling southbound on Old Dixie Highway.

For an unknown reason, the Chevrolet’s driver proceeded into the intersection after stopping at the red light, troopers said. The Chevrolet then collided with the Honda in the intersection.

The Honda’s driver was taken to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, troopers said.

No further information was immediately available.
