Founded in 1983, the society’s mission seeks to advocate for the stewardship & shared education of our counties historical resources. Devoted volunteers have worked to establish historic markers, secure National Register designations & initiate historical property surveys. Among these included the first countywide archaeological survey & saving Jungle Trail in 2003.
Their vision was advanced by the acquisition of the Train Depot & Hallstrom House Farmstead Museum. Today, trained docents enlighten visitors to their significant roles in shaping Indian River County.
Along with numerous articles & brochures, the society published, “A History of Indian River County, a sense of place”, which details the founding, establishment, and history of our county.
Adjacent to their print work, a short series documentary on Indian River County history numbers among their initiatives.
This year we welcome locals & visitors to our annual Pineapple Festival to experience our passion for history.
