9 hurt in multi-vehicle wreck on 58th Ave; FHP investigating

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Nine people were hurt – including six with serious injuries – in a multi-vehicle crash that closed 58th Avenue for an hour Wednesday, fire rescue officials said. A child was among those seriously hurt, Indian River County Fire Chief David Rattray said.

The three-vehicle collision happened about 2 p.m. at the 58th Avenue and 77th Street intersection, south of the Indian River County Fairgrounds & Expo Center. The injured were taken by ambulances and helicopters to different hospitals.

The child was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Rattray said. Five other people with serious injuries were taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne and HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.

Three people with minor injuries were taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Rattray said. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were investigating the cause of the wreck.
