Man shot in shoulder in Gifford; deputies search for suspect

GIFFORD — Deputies are searching for a suspect who they said shot another man in the shoulder Tuesday afternoon and then ran from the area.

A woman called 911 about noon and told dispatchers her boyfriend was shot in the 3800 block of 47th Street, deputies said. The woman said she drove the man to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.

The man has non-life threatening injuries, deputies said. The woman identified the possible shooter as her former classmate who she said stole money from her in the past.

Deputies on Tuesday afternoon released a surveillance photo from the incident. Deputies said home security footage captured the suspect – wearing a white shirt and black shorts – run down the street with what appeared to be a black handgun.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the man’s whereabouts should contact sheriff’s Detective Robert Sunkel at 772-978-6122.
