Celebrate Earth Day through end of April at Humane Society Thrift Shops

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Come celebrate Earth Day at the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County’s (HSVBIRC) Vero Beach and Sebastian thrift shops. Both locations will have hundreds of re-purposed items available for sale and all items will be on display until sold.

Each year, Humane Society volunteers and staff show off their creative side as they celebrate Earth Day, April 22, in style. During the weeks leading up to Earth Day they transform donated dress shirts and linens into decorative rugs, LP records into candy dishes, yarn into dream catchers and beautiful cloth necklaces made from t-shirts.

“The greenest products are the ones that already exist,” said Humane Society Thrift Shop Manager Annette Barcus. “Re-purposing old items is one of the best ways to help our environment.”

Earth Day is a great time to “recycle” older items stored away in closets and garages. Donated merchandise such as china, glassware, furniture and clothing can be sold raises funds for Humane Society services such as spaying and neutering while donations of gently used blankets, sheets and towels go directly to the shelter to help with animal care.

The Humane Society’s Vero Beach Thrift Shop is located at 4435 20th St. while the Sebastian Thrift Shop can be found at 441 Sebastian Blvd. (CR 512). Both thrift shops regularly seek volunteers. For more information about volunteering or donating, please call the Humane Society’s Vero Beach Thrift Shop at (772) 567-2044 or the Sebastian Thrift Shop at (772) 388-0323.
