FELLSMERE — The City of Fellsmere will apply for a $440,000 grant to construct sidewalks on both sides of Massachusetts Avenue, the Fellsmere City Council agreed Thursday night.
“We will aggressively pursue” the grant if approved, City Manager Jason Nunemaker said prior to the Council’s unanimous vote.
The City will have to provide $75,000 to match the grant. The funds will be used for engineering the work and administering the grant.
The plan is to build a sidewalk on the north side of Massachusetts Avenue from S. Myrtle Street to a little east of Willow Street.
When the Council discussed the project last month, Vice Mayor Joel Tyson said, “I think it’s miraculous we haven’t had a fatality” on Massachusetts.
