CAMERA: Getting the itch to buy more gear

Recently the itch to buy another piece of camera gear started, again. Like a case of poison ivy; it just nags at you until you’re either talked out of it or you buy something.

Right now I’m thinking about buying a macro lens or a fish eye.

Yes, I know, different ends of the spectrum, really close or really wide.

In some photographers’ opinions, both are gimmicky, at least when it comes to photojournalism.

But I do take photos outside of the job, mostly with my Canon point and shoot, but some with my professional gear when the occasion dictates it.

From talking it over with colleagues, and thinking about the uses, I’m leaning toward a macro lens. Just imagine the up close love bug shots…

Do you own either of these lenses? Which one do you like more?

In the end, I’ll probably allow myself to be talked out of it yet again. It’s increasingly harder to spend money on items you don’t need when you have a 7-month-old.
