VERO BEACH — The Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County recently announced the winners of its Annual College and Vocational Training Scholarship awards at its membership luncheon.
The Scholarship Committee which consists of Susan Sniffen, Juanita Baker, Josephine Gallo, Elsie Visel and Valerie George, makes its annual awards based on academic standing as well as extracurricular activities, career goals and a commitment to democratic ideals.
The committee was impressed with the high caliber of these young women and applauds all their accomplishments, wishing them much success as they pursue their career goals and work for democratic ideals.
The winners were:
* Colleen Coppola, a graduate of Sebastian High School, is the daughter of Carol and John Coppola. She will attend the Florida Gulf Coast University where she will enter the social work program.
* Caricea Mary Smith is a graduate of the Indian River Charter High School and is the daughter of Tangela S. Smith. Caricea will attend the University of South Florida where she plans to major in the Biological Sciences.
Three recent graduates from Vero Beach High School were also awarded scholarships included:
* Hannah Elizabeth Fies, daughter of Paige E. and Paul J. Fies.
* Malika Jalea Hart who will attend Florida Atlantic University and is the daughter of Eathel D. and Denny Hart. Malika will study to become a Nurse Anesthetist.
* Alexandria Brooke Huff will attend Florida State University where she will major in Marketing. Alexandria is the daughter of Elizabeth Mahon.
