Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘It’s a challenging situation’ – Schools take action amid virus outbreak

In the midst of uncertainty after statewide school closings caused by the coronavirus outbreak, local officials are making sure students still learn from home and have access to teachers. "It's a challenging situation. We're working to make sure (teachers) are available to families. We will implement flexible times (for employees)," Schools Superintendent David Moore said during Wednesday's laptop distribution. "Everyone's working together. Folks are getting their laptops with happiness." School officials will also give out laptops to families on Thursday and after spring break. 4 arrested on suspicion of operating vessels while drinking

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Four men were arrested in separate incidents over the weekend after authorities said the individuals were operating their vessels while drinking. The arrests come a week after five other men were jailed on the same offense. Law enforcement officers with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigated the incidents. Officers arrested Michael Kahn, 20, of the 6900 block of 29th Street, Quinn Muir, 22, of the 1300 block of 44th Avenue, James Maxwell, 38, of the 1100 block of 27th Avenue, and Travis Clark each on a boating under the influence charge.
