Touch A Truck Family Festival Revs Up for Children

VERO BEACH — Childcare Resources of Indian River will host its Third Annual Touch A Truck Family Festival on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Indian River County Fairgrounds. Touch A Truck Family Festival once again promises fun for the entire family.

There will be lots of big trucks-emergency, waste management, construction, agricultural, utility-for children to climb aboard, blow the horns, and discover how these complex machines operate and provide valuable services to our community.

Touch A Truck Family Festival will also offer games, face painting; live performances by children’s entertainer Darrell House; bounce houses; arts & crafts by Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, St. Edwards School, Bob Evans Restaurant, and Home Depot; prize drawings; and a delicious food court.

Admission to the Festival is $5 per person or $20 per family (up to five people). Event proceeds support Childcare Resources’ affordable quality early education programs for Indian River County working families.

Last year, more than 50 truck owners and companies participated in the community-based event, and the enthusiasm has not faded.

Robert Paugh, owner of a 1970 GMC pickup truck knows why he enjoys the event: ” There is absolutely, unmistakably, no denying the pleasure a kid has climbing into a big old truck, grabbing a hold of that steering wheel and then laying on that horn. There nothing better than seeing children smile!”

Patty Jaholkowski of Mike’s Wrecker Service and Florida Towing has both sponsored and participated in Touch A Truck Family Festival since its inaugural year.

“I enjoy seeing all the faces of the children in amazement. Some children do not get to see these kinds of trucks up close and personal. It is a good feeling to see every child with a smile.”

This year she and her family will bring 10 trucks for children to see up close and personal.

The Touch A Truck Family Festival still has space for kid-friendly trucks to participate and volunteers to help the day of the event.
