Man killed during early morning confrontation in Wabasso

WABASSO - A man in his early 20s was shot and killed overnight Sunday in the Summerplace neighborhood of Wabasso. Indian River County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Jeff Luther said that about 2:45 a.m. Sunday man in his early 20s approached a house on the 9400 block of Periwinkle Drive, in the Summerplace subdivision of Wabasso Beach. "The resident got into a confrontation with the white male," Luther said. "A gun was involved. That is all we know at this time, as the case is still under investigation." INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - When a school bus from Wabasso rumbled past the white fences of Windsor last week, the glorious day at the beach that lay ahead for the 53 children on board was largely thanks to an unusual alliance of two women. Seemingly worlds apart, yet barely a causeway away, Cynthia Bardes of Windsor and Verna Wright of Wabasso found common ground at the Dasie Hope Center, just across the Wabasso Bridge. There, in a tightly-knit, economically depressed community, four generations of Wright's family have lived and worked.
