Raymond Hicks, 65, Indian River County

Raymond Hicks, 65, died March 3, 2011, in Fort Lauderdale.

He was born in Welbourne and lived in Indian River County for more than 50 years, coming from his birthplace.

Survivors include sons, Raymond L. Hicks and Bobby R. Hicks, both of Fort Lauderdale; daughter, Lahomer Hicks, of Vero Beach; brothers, Johnny Hicks, of Melbourne, Randolph Hicks, of Vero Beach, and James Hicks, of Pennsylvania; sisters, Lorine Horskin, of Vero Beach, Judy Davis, of St. Augustine, and Lisa Wallace, of Sanford; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 11 at Hortense/Mills Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. March 12 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Gifford Cemetery.

11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford. SEBASTIAN — Billy Wilson's impact on the community over the years was evident Saturday as family, friends, coaches, school board members and deputies gathered to pay final respects.
