Fuel up for less, fill up on fun at gas buy-down, block party

SEBASTIAN — Two annual events are coming up in Sebastian offering drivers the opportunity to fill up the gas tanks at a discount and bring their families out for fun during a party.

Coastal Community Church, which meets at Sebastian River Middle School, is hosting both community events as a way to help those during the economic downturn.

The fifth annual “Gas Buy-Down” will be held at the Shark Mart Mobil Gas Station, located 9490 90th Avenue – at the corner of County Roads 510 and 512 starting at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11.

The church plans to sell 2,000 gallons of gasoline at a 50-cent-per-gallon discount. The discount will be limited to 20 gallons per customer so more customers can get the discount, according to Pastor Seth Goldsmith.

The following Saturday, Sept. 18, Coastal Community Church will hold its fifth annual Community Block Party. Though the event is sponsored and hosted by the church, the party is meant for everyone, Goldsmith said.

“We want to be so much more than a place to gather on Sunday mornings,” Goldsmith said. “We want to make a difference in our community each day of the week. This is just one way we are sharing God’s unconditional love with our neighbors.”

The free party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Riverview Park, located at US 1 and County Road 512 rain or shine.

There will be multiple inflatable bounce houses, a Bungee Run and carnival games for families to enjoy.

A live D.J. will keep the music playing and will be announcing giveaways from local businesses.

To satisfy hungers at the block party, there will be slow-roasted barbecue pork, hotdogs, cotton candy and snow cones.

Church organizers are looking for more items to giveaway in random drawings during the Community Block Party. Such items they are seeking include gift certificates, gift baskets and the like.

Anyone interested in volunteering for either of the two events or donating items or becoming an event sponsor should call (772) 202-0121 or visit www.SebastianChurch.com.
