SEBASTIAN – Join Kayaks ETC on the Indian River Lagoon on Saturday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to noon for a paddle with author Warren Richey as he tells about his race around Florida. Meet at Captain Hiram’s Resort.

We will have some of the kids from our Boys and Girls Club paddling group on the water with us and invite you all to come on out and paddle and meet this amazing man. Richey, who paddled 1200 miles around Florida, is in town promoting his book, Without a Paddle, about his journey. For more about the race see his website: www.WarrenRichey.com. Richey’s career as a journalist has taken him from his hometown paper in Red Bank, New Jersey, to assignments around the world. Currently with The Christian Science Monitor, he splits his time between Florida and Washington, D.C., where he covers legal affairs and the US Supreme Court. We plan on launching at 9 am – bring your own kayak or rent from Kayaks ETC for the discounted price for this event of $20 per adult.  Kids are free with a paying adult.

Sheriff’s candidates say George Floyd’s death, national response will be an issue in their race

All five candidates for sheriff say the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month and subsequent nationwide protests will be an issue in the race here, and they expect to be asked about it as they campaign. Two of them – Fellsmere Police Chief Keith Touchberry and retired Sheriff’s Capt.
