Local Yoga classes offer peace of mind

SEBASTIAN — Everyone, at every age level, from a high-school student to elders in their golden years can benefit from the silence and depth that yoga practice can offer.

And there is now a unique style of yoga that offers just that; developed right here in our backyard, Kali Natha Yoga (KNY) is taking yoga to a different level. Although this training draws from the ancient practices of classical yoga and Eastern philosophy, anyone, at any age and in any physical condition can participate and reap the benefits.

And getting that peace of mind can be simple. The Research Society demonstrated that cortisol, often called the “stress hormone.” drops significantly beginning with the very first yoga class. Researchers believe that the deep breathing and poses done in yoga trigger the body’s “relaxation response.” This helps to bring the body into balance, reducing muscle tension and deactivating the stress response.

And what are the many other benefits? What sets this yoga apart from others that one might encounter? Kali Natha Yoga infuses any yoga practice with an essence of truth, depth of devotion and passion of movement. It can also:

* Increase flexibility

* Increase vital energy

* Strengthen and tone

* Reduce stress

* Increase concentration & focus

* Improve memory

* Deepen awareness

* Awaken spirituality

* Create peace of mind

And now there are a multitude of classes held at the school’s studio in Sebastian seven days a week. Kashi School of Yoga, located at Kashi Ashram in Sebastian on Roseland Road, offers yoga as well as breath and meditation sessions.

Developed by Kashi Ashram founder, Ma Jaya, Kali Natha Yoga is comprised of many unique flow series that include classical postures, breathing and meditations. Each of the yoga series includes: asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), mudras (hand positions), mantras (sacred syllables), and meditation.
