Woman accused of spending 90 minutes at Walmart shoplifting

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Vero Beach woman was arrested, accused of shoplifting $270 worth of merchandise in an hour and a half at Walmart, stuffing the purloined items into her child’s diaper bag and her purse.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Tammy Lynn Fisler, of 18th Avenue SW, on Saturday, Dec. 12, after being called out to the Walmart on 20th Street. According to the arrest report, Fisler spent more than 1 1/2 hours inside the store, breaking open packages and removing tags, then concealing the items in the diaper bag and purse.

In all, Fisler is accused of trying to walk out of the store with 34 items, including a new pair of shoes for her 14-month-old child, the report states.

Fisler faces one misdemeanor charge of retail theft and has been released from the county jail on $500 bond.

Compactor fire leads to brief evacuation of Vero Beach Walmart; no injuries reported

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — No injuries were reported after a compactor fire caused a nearly hour-long evacuation at the Walmart Supercenter in Vero Beach, fire rescue officials said. The small blaze started about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in the compactor near the loading dock outside of the store, Indian River County Department of Emergency Services Chief Tad Stone said. The giant retail chain is located at 5555 20th Street, east of 58th Avenue. The flames did not spread, but the smoke veered into a storage area, Stone said. County announces beach closures ahead of beach restoration project

At least two beaches will be closed starting this weekend ahead of the beach restoration project, which will start back up next week, county officials said. The project aims to restore sand - which had been washed away by storms and hurricanes over the years - at the beaches. Beach park access at Seagrape Trail Beach Access and Treasure Shores Park Beach will both close starting Friday, county officials said.
