Fellsmere keeps Adams, Tyson in leadership roles on council

FELLSMERE — Fellsmere’s Susan Adams and Joel Tyson will retain their posts as Mayor and Vice Mayor, respectively, after receiving unanimous support from their fellow council members last week.

“At least you won’t have to switch offices,” joked City Manager Jason Nunemaker, referring to a dustup at Vero Beach City Hall regarding the former mayor not moving out of his office to make room for the new mayor.

Before voting on the vice mayor, newly sworn in Councilwoman Sara Savage asked Councilman Fernando Herrera if he would be interested in the post.

“Joel, I love you and all,” Savage said to Tyson before addressing Herrera.

“My schedule’s tough,” Herrera said, adding that he would be happy to continue to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem but could not handle taking the role of Vice Mayor.

“Thank you so much” for the suggestion, Herrera told Savage.

Herrera recommended Adams for Mayor.

“I would love to do it again,” she said. “Thank you.”
