PROJECT: US 1 from 20th Place to 33rd Street in Vero BeachDESCRIPTION: Work will include repaving this 1.4-mile-long section, replacing traffic signals, adding sidewalks in some areas and repair sidewalks, landscaping in a traffic island near 20th Place and installing an overhead sign structure on US 1 northbound at 8th Avenue.CLOSURES: A lane will be closed periodically in each direction at 20th Place and at 33rd Street weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.START DATE: April 6, 2009ESTIMATED COMPLETION: November, 2009

Woman’s car catches fire in Fellsmere

Police and fire rescue crews went to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. "She said all the dashboard lights started flickering," Fellsmere police Sgt. Scott Newsom said. The woman was not injured. The flames originated in the engine compartment and did not spread to the grass, police and fire rescue crews said. Troopers ID woman killed in I-95 NB crash in Indian River County

Photo provided by Jamie Beck INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Florida highway troopers identified a woman killed in a rollover crash that blocked traffic on northbound Interstate 95 for nearly five hours Tuesday. The crash happened at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on northbound I-95, near the 145 mile marker. Troopers said passenger Silvana Lopez, 50, of Lake Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lopez was the only occupant not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, reports show. Another motorist traveling behind the vehicle in which Lopez was a passenger said the woman was jolted in the air during the crash.
