INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A high school student and a middle school student tested positive for COVID-19, prompting officials to place 23 other students on a two-week quarantine, authorities said.

There are now 14 incidents at Indian River County schools where students were told to quarantine after COVID-19 cases were reported. This is the second case involving Sebastian River High School and the third case involving Oslo Middle School.

To date, 226 students and four staff members have been placed on a two-week quarantine since the start of the school year.

The latest case involved a student at Sebastian River High School, and another at Oslo Middle School, according to the School District of Indian River County. Florida Department of Health identified 23 students who came in close contact with the pupil with a positive test at Oslo Middle School.

School officials called the families of the students and notified them the children will need to stay home. The students with positive tests at both schools were also placed on quarantine, officials said.

The children who will stay home will continue school through virtual learning, authorities said.

Health officials did not identify any additional students at Sebastian River High School who came in close contact with the student with a positive test. Custodial services continue to disinfect and sanitize all areas of the campuses.
