Katherine L. Hughes, 83, died March 5, 2010, at Courtyards of Vero Beach.
She was born in Suttons Bay, Mich., and lived in Vero Beach for 63 years. Before retiring, she was a laboratory technician for Ocean Spray Fruit Juice in Vero Beach.
She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church and the Woman’s Club at St. Helen. She was a member of the Vero Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen Owens of Casper, Wyo., Dennis Owens of Huntington, Texas, and Michael Owens of Vero Beach; daughters, Linda Grant, Judith Horner and Deborah Owens, all of Old Fort, N.C., stepson, James C. Hughes; stepdaughter, Elveida Pierson; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Chester Hughes.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 8 at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Services will be at 1 p.m. March 9 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.
