Thomas Clifford Shedd, Jr., 78, Vero Beach

Thomas Clifford Shedd, Jr., 78, passed away on March 4, 2010 in Vero Beach.

Mr. Shedd joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1951 during the Korean War and served his first field assignment in Korea and the Far East. This assignment was followed by assignments in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and domestically.

He retired in 1982 as an officer of the Senior Intelligence Service. Following federal service, he operated as an independent consultant.

Mr. Shedd is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and served in both the U.S. Naval Reserve and the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the National Right to Work Committee, and the U.S. Naval Institute.

Mr. Shedd worked as an industrial electrician in Worcester, Mass.

He married Maureen Joan Moore on Jan. 30, 1955 in Worcester. Survivors include his wife, Maureen J. Shedd of Vero Beach; sons, Thomas George Shedd of Fort Mill, S.C., Daniel Todd Shedd and Matthew Andrew Shedd, both of Fairfax, Va., and Kenneth S. Shedd of San Francisco; 4 grandchildren; brothers, Roger Shedd and Robert Shedd, both of Oxford, Mass.; and sister, Dorothy Shedd of Woodbridge, Va.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach. Interment will be 1 p.m., March 15th at South Florida National VA Cemetery in Lake Worth.
