John B. “Bernie” Huseman, 83, of Sebastian, formerly of Hollywood, Md., and Clinton, Md., passed away on May 5, 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis D. Huseman; his sons John B. Huseman, Jr. (Teresa) of La Plata, Md., James S. Huseman (Pam) of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Denis M. Huseman of Felton, Del., and Daniel P. Huseman of Sebastian; seven grandchildren, Melinda Bowling (Tom), Anthony Huseman, Jennifer Huseman, Carly Huseman, Hailey Huseman, Sydney Huseman, and Paige Huseman; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Bowling and Elsie Bowling (who is named after her great-great- grandmother). He is also survived by his sisters Gail Osborn (Leo) of Mechanicsville, Md., Judy Huseman of Alexandria, Va., and Sherry Drechsler (Ronnie) of Pasadena, Md., brother-in-law Charles H. Pratt, Jr., of Lanham, Md., and many nieces and nephews.
Huseman was born in Washington D.C. on Sept. 9, 1931 to John S. Huseman and Helen A. Huseman. He attended Anacostia High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January 1952. He served during the Korean War. He worked for the Air Force for more than 30 years, first as an aircraft mechanic and later as an aircraft mechanic instructor for the 89th Military Airlift Wing of Air Force One. Huseman retired from the federal government in 1987.
He enjoyed following the Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals. Early in his retirement he loved fishing in southern Maryland and later in Indian River County.
