George Earl Petticrew Sr., 76, Vero Beach

George Earl Petticrew Sr., 76, died Jan. 20, 2013, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Sebastian.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 33 years, coming from his birthplace.

He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1974 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War, retiring as senior chief petty officer.

After retirement from the Navy, he worked as a rural postal carrier for Postal Service in Sebastian, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10210, Sebastian; and a past member of the Eagles and the Fellsmere Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Pamela Petticrew, of Vero Beach; sons, Thomas M. Petticrew, of New York, Ronnie E. Petticrew, of Woodland Park, Colo., Joe Petticrew, of Palm Bay and George E. Petticrew Jr., of Vero Beach; daughters, Terry Petticrew, of Kingston, Ohio and Mary Louise Stokes, of Vero Beach; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Mary Catherine Petticrew; brothers, Herbert A. Petticrew II, William E. Petticrew and Clyde Petticrew; and sister, Opal Steiner.

Services: Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.

A funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Ragsdale officiating.

Internment will follow in Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter Beach, with military honors conducted by the Sebastian Area Veterans’ Honor Guard.
