INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Samaritan Center for Homeless Families will honor Reverend Jack Diehl and his wife, Karen, as their “Good Samaritans” for 2012. The Diehl’s will be presented with this award at the Samaritan Center’s 19th Annual Dinner entitled “Home is Where the Heart Is” to be held at 6 p.m. Thursday Feb.16 at the Holy Cross Parish Hall.
Jack, a native of Michigan, has been senior pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach since the summer of 1977. In the Vero Beach community Reverend Diehl has served on the Safespace (Spouse Abuse) Board, United Way Committees, Kiwanis, the Sunshine Physical Therapy Center board of directors, and many public school related boards and activities.
He is the past president of the Fighting Indians Band Boosters for Vero Beach High School and currently a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club.
Karen has held the position of music teacher at Sebastian Elementary for more than six years. She and her husband were very involved as “band parents” while their four children attended Vero Beach High School.
She is also very involved with the Sunday school program at Our Savior Lutheran as well as the Samaritan Center Soup Bowl which is hosted at the Church.
Tickets for the event go on sale in January and are priced at $125 per person and $250 per couple. The evening will include a cocktail reception, dinner, dancing, live and silent auction and entertainment from the Ossie Wright Band.
