Locally based Haiti Partners to host benefit dinner for Education in Haiti Feb. 10

VERO BEACH — While reconstruction efforts progress gradually and the cholera epidemic lingers on, Vero Beach based non-profit Haiti Partners presses on in its mission to help Haitians change Haiti through education. On Thursday, February 10 Haiti Partners will be hosting its Fifth Annual Banquet, featuring stories of faith and love alongside the suffering and hardships of a Haiti fighting to rebuild.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach. Tickets are $30 and all proceeds from the night go to education in Haiti.

To reserve, call 772-539-8521 or visit www.haitipartners.org for tickets.

Featured speakers include Vero Beach resident Kent Annan, author, speaker, and co-director of Haiti Partners. Kent’s latest book, After Shock (IVP, 2011), recounts his search for honest faith amidst the devastation of the 2010 earthquake. After Shock has been praised by best-selling author and Vero Beach resident Debbie Macomber as a “deeply personal account of a man’s walk of faith – a man heavily invested in this island nation and its people.” Kent previously wrote Following Jesus Through the Eye of the Needle (IVP 2009), recounting his first few years living in Haiti along with his wife.

Haiti Partners co-director John Engle, who was in Port-au-Prince at the time of the earthquake, will also be speaking. John and his family have relocated to Haiti from Vero Beach indefinitely, coordinating Haiti Partners’ efforts to sustain schools, train teachers, develop leaders, and equip people of faith to impact their communities.

Other presenters will include Benaja Antoine, a native Haitian on the staff of Haiti Partners. Benaja has over 15 years of experience working in all aspects of education, as a teacher, librarian, administrator, and Sunday school teacher.

Haiti Partners is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to assisting thriving schools for children, supporting faithful churches and stronger institutions, and enabling democratic and economic growth for Haiti. Haiti Partners educates over 1100 children in 7 partner schools and is training 300 teachers a year with innovative teaching methods. Over 40 community leaders are taking part in an intensive 3 year equipping program, and 15 Haitian church leaders have been given scholarships to attend seminary while working to promote children’s rights and Scripture study.

RSVP by February 3 by calling 772-539-8521, or visit www.haitipartners.org.
