VERO BEACH – Despite one man’s claim that the marijuana was his, two were arrested for possession, one facing a more serious charge of possession with intent to sell.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men deputies believe may have been dealing marijuana and in possession of stolen guns.
Authorities executed a search warrant Tuesday at a home on 38th Avenue, near Atlantic Boulevard, and seized 14 “dime” bags of marijuana, three-quarters of an ounce of crack cocaine, 60 oxycodone pills, a Glock 21, a Glock 22 reported stolen out of Volusia County, and a Heritage Arms 22mag revolver reported stolen in Indian River County.
When authorities conducted the search, a black male later identified as Aramis Cave, 26, fled the home and, according to the Sheriff’s Office, threw a plastic bag onto the ground.
Investigators recovered the bag and found the “dime” bags of marijuana inside. The total weight of the marijuana was 10 grams, according to authorities.
Authorities gave chase to Cave and apprehended him.
Cave is in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail on a charge of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
During the search, authorities encountered another man, identified as Donald Francis, 22, and ordered him to the ground. Initially, the Sheriff’s Office let Francis go but he returned to claim ownership of the marijuana and told investigators he didn’t want anyone else taking the blame for it.
Francis was arrested and has since been released from the county jail on $500 bond. He faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession.
So far, neither man faces charges for the firearms, though charges could be forthcoming.
