VERO BEACH — The Emerson Center, along with Presenting Sponsor Wilmington Trust, proudly announces the 2012 Celebrated Speakers Series. “Without a doubt, these highly acclaimed individuals will offer audiences the most exciting year to date,” said Donald Croteau, Celebrated Speaker Series committee chairman. “After such an impressive and timely 2011 series of speakers, we knew it would be difficult to top, but in fact, we feel that we have succeeded in doing just that.”
The five speaker series launches with Arianna Huffington on January 14, 2012. Huffington is an international best-selling author and the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the nationally syndicated The Huffington Post, recently purchased in a multi-million dollar deal by AOL. Known as “one of the most influential women in media, she also co-hosts public radio’s Left, Right and Center.
Nationally known columnist and commentator Mark Shields follows on February 4, 2012. Referred to, by The Wall Street Journal, as the “wittiest political analyst around,” Shields is a regular panelist on Inside Washington, seen on both ABC and PBS.
Diversifying, the Emerson Center welcomes Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson on February 25, 2012. Tyson’s professional research includes star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structure of our Milky Way. Appointed by President Bush and later NASA, he has served on commissions studying the future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry and its new space vision.
Former Florida Congressman Joe Scarborough comes home to Florida on March 10, 2012. He is co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe which The New Yorker describes as “appallingly entertaining.” The show features interviews with top newsmakers and politicians with in-depth analysis of the day’s biggest stories.
Ending on a high note on March 31, 2012, the final celebrated speaker is Bob Woodward, the associate editor of The Washington Post, and author and co-author of eleven nonfiction national bestsellers. Called “the most celebrated journalist of our age,” Woodward has won nearly every American Journalism and several Pulitzer Prize awards.
Series ticket buyers have the option of subscribing to the first four speakers for $220 or all five speakers for $275. Seats are available at either the 4 pm or 7 pm performances.
