VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Department will present a “Petite Classics” Chamber Concert on Thursday, April 14 at 7 pm in the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
Some musical selections performed will include Identity Crisis for Percussion by Michael Aukofer, Serenade for Winds in E flat, Opus 7 by Richard Strauss, and Divertimento for Brass and Percussion Ensemble by a 20th century Pulitzer Prize winning composer named Karel Husa.
Husa studied in Prague and received a great honor in 1995, the Czech Republic’s State Medal Award of Merit. Classical critics have praised his orchestration as “always assured and colorful.”
The concert will also feature The Sword and the Crown by Edward Gregson, who was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company to write the music for The Plantagenets trilogy, directed by Adrian Noble in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The music from these plays take us from the death of Henry V to the death of Richard III and tell the story of the struggle for power through the use of force during one of the most turbulent periods in the history of the British monarchy.
Tickets are $12 for the lower level and $10 for the upper level. All Seating is reserved.
