Register April 18 for Vero Beach Museum of Art summer fun

VERO BEACH – Registration opens for the Vero Beach Museum of Art’s Summer Art Camp on Monday, April 18, at the museum.

The largest and most popular visual arts camp experience in Indian River County will be held this year from June 13 – Aug. 5 in the studios of the Museum Art School.

Children ages 4-16 are invited to spend a week or more in a creative, child-centered environment to explore new ideas, develop skills, and build self-esteem through making and learning about art.

Summer Art Camp provides a choice of 65 morning and afternoon classes in eight week-long sessions offered by expert instructors experienced in getting the best work from their students in a fun, welcoming setting.

Previous art instruction is not required, only a desire to learn and have fun.

“We really live in a visual world, and kids respond naturally to that,” said Marshall Adams, VBMA Director of Education. “When they make things like a painting, a drawing, or a bowl, they are creatively solving problems and learning to think critically. Kids that have a devoted time like Summer Art Camp to experiment or focus on this, with a knowledgeable teacher coaching them, can explore new talents or strengthen existing skills, and at the same time make some pretty amazing things. It’s a great way to spend any summer.”

Examples of classes offered in the program include: Picture Book Art (ages 4-5), Introduction to Painting (ages 6-8), Color Explosion (ages 6-8), Funky Portrait Workshop (ages 9-11), Digital Photography (ages 9-11), Marvelous Mosaics (ages 9-11), Clayworks – Handbuilding (ages 9-11 and 12-16), and Wear Me Out: Fun with Fabric (ages 12-16).

A week-long session of a single class (morning or afternoon) is $90 ($80 for museum members), with a few exceptions. Parents may combine a morning and afternoon class for a full-day experience.

Optional morning care and supervised lunch care is also available.

Full class descriptions and registration forms for the Summer Art Camp are available online at www.verobeachmuseum.org or at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Dive, Vero Beach.
