SEBASTIAN – A new tenant will be moving into two small offices within the Sebastian Municipal Airport’s administrative wing – for a little more than a $1 per square foot a month.
REMOS Aircraft USA secured a month-by-month lease with the City of Sebastian at a recent council meeting for $250 a month for approximately 230 square feet of furnished office space. The lease was placed on the Sebastian City Council’s consent agenda and was approved without discussion with a 4-1 vote.
Councilman Eugene Wolff said at the end of the meeting that he had failed to pull the item for discussion, which he had meant to do.
He called the monthly rent “unbelievably” low and questioned the terms, which requires no deposit.
Wolff also questioned whether the space had been advertised as being available to lease to be sure the city was getting the most it could for the offices.
“It’s just hard to fathom,” the councilman said of leasing the space without bidding it out.
REMOS Aircraft is based in Germany, where it manufactures light sport aircraft.
Earl Boyter, the vice president of sales and marketing for the company’s US operations, approached the City of Sebastian about leasing some space for such endeavors.
He told the city he plans to hire at least one person to assist him in marketing the aircraft, according to city records.
