Samuel Jacob Croft, 87, died Sept. 8, 2010, at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach.
He was born in Ft. Meade and lived in Vero Beach for 31 years, coming from Indiantown. Before retirement, he was a supervisor in the citrus industry. He served in the Marine Corps and survived the battle of Iwo Jima, going ashore on the first day of the invasion and not leaving until the battle had been won 36 days later.
He was a member of the Vero Beach Marine Corps League.
Survivors include his sons, Samuel Croft, Melvin Croft and Julian Croft; daughters, Gail Winer and Beth Dozer; brothers, E.C., George and Mark; sister, Edna; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at Ryanwood Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church in Vero Beach, followed by a military service at Memorial Island in Vero Beach.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce.
