VERO BEACH — Join Youth Guidance and Connected 4 Kids at the Addiction & the Teenage Brain workshop on Tuesday, April 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  The free parenting forum will be held at The Majestic 11 Theatre in Vero Beach.

This is ideal for adults to learn some excellent information that the entire family needs to know about substance abuse. Dr. DeNoble, in partnership with Substance Awareness Council of Indian River County, will be the guest speaker.

Topics include the extreme addictiveness of nicotine and other drugs most often used by teens today and Dr. DeNoble’s experiences working as a research scientist for Philip Morris in the 1980s.

VERO BEACH — Police officers doing surveys for sea turtle nesting season discovered 20 bricks of cocaine that washed ashore over the weekend, spokesperson Officer Kelsea Marty said. County announces beach closures ahead of beach restoration project

At least two beaches will be closed starting this weekend ahead of the beach restoration project, which will start back up next week, county officials said. The project aims to restore sand - which had been washed away by storms and hurricanes over the years - at the beaches. Beach park access at Seagrape Trail Beach Access and Treasure Shores Park Beach will both close starting Friday, county officials said. 4 teens charged in vehicle theft; high-speed chase

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Four teenagers were jailed after they stole a Ford pickup from Sebastian and led officers on a high-speed chase on the interstate last weekend, deputies said. There were firearms inside the truck at the time of the theft, reports show. The truck reached speeds exceeding 100 mph on southbound Interstate 95 as the driver fled from deputies, officials said. The boys involved were a 15-year-old from Vero Beach, a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old both from Fort Pierce, and a 15-year-old from Sebastian.
