Eugenia “Genie” Griggs Golladay, 67, died Dec. 18, 2009, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
She was born in Salisbury, N.C. and graduated cum laude from Catawba College, Salisbury, in 1964 with a degree in English. She received her master’s degree in community counseling in 1982 from Hood College in Frederick, Md.
She was a certified counselor and had a Florida license as a mental health counselor. She taught English in Lancaster, Pa., from 1964 to 1967 and later became a counselor for chronically mentally ill adults in suburban Washington, D.C.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, the Rev. Thomas L. Golladay of Sebastian; daughters; Kathleen Kowanic of Vero Beach and Morgan Burke of Barefoot Bay; sister, Margaret Cauble of Sebastian; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mental Health Association of Indian River County or Heifer International, c/o The United Church of Sebastian.
A memorial service of celebration will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 23 at United Church of Sebastian, Sebastian, with the Rev. Scott Elliott, pastor of Riviera United Church of Christ in Palm Bay, officiating and the Rev. Tim Woodard hosting.
Visitation will follow the service at a reception at the church. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sebastian.
